F and M train routes between Manhattan and Queens will be swapped starting Dec. 8 on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The F will run via the 53rd Street line and Queens Plaza alongside the E; the M will run via the 63rd Street line and Roosevelt Island and serve local Queens Boulevard stations. Late evenings, nights, and weekend service will not change. The swap eliminates merges at Queens Plaza that currently cause 15–20% of rush-hour delays and isolates local and express delays. The change enables upgrades at 21 St–Queensbridge, including lighting, signage, ADA tactile strips, drainage, and canopy work.
