Mexican naval ship that crashed into Brooklyn Bridge finally sails home from NYC
"We are very proud of the Cuauhtémoc, which has been crossing the seas of the world since 1986, when it was built,"
"We are very grateful to Mayor Adams and Governor Hochul and to the hospitals and first responders who supported during and in the aftermath of the tragic accident. We also want to remember and honor the two cadets who lost their lives that night."
"He is a traumatologist,"
"He was one of the first people to respond during the accident."
The Mexican Navy tall ship Cuauhtémoc sailed out of Manhattan Saturday afternoon without incident after a farewell ceremony on the Hudson River. Around 300 people gathered at Pier 86 to wave, sing, and dance as the three-masted training vessel prepared to return to Cozumel after six months in New York for repairs. Cadets formed ranks while a military band played the Mexican and naval anthems. Officials expressed pride in the ship, gratitude to city and state leaders and first responders, and honored two cadets who died in the earlier Brooklyn Bridge accident. Family members and traditional dancers participated in the send-off.
