Briefly

Police are searching for a man accused of stealing nearly $10,000 from multiple Brooklyn bank ATMs this summer by giving victims fraudulent checks and persuading them to withdraw cash from their accounts. The first incident occurred June 22 at a Chase Bank on Fulton Street when a suspect convinced a 38-year-old man to deposit an $880 check and take cash; the check later bounced. On July 1 the suspect persuaded a 28-year-old woman at the same bank to deposit a $2,860 fraudulent check. Similar incidents on July 22 and July 23 involved $990 at a Citibank on Kings Highway and $4,790 at a TD Bank on Court Street. No injuries were reported. Police ask anyone with information to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline or submit tips online.
NYPD officials said the first incident happened on June 22 at a Chase Bank on Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn. The suspect allegedly approached a 38-year-old man at an ATM and asked him to deposit a $880 check in exchange for the cash. He did so, and the suspect fled west on Fulton Street. The check later bounced, police said.
The suspect resurfaced at the same bank on July 1 and convinced a 28-year-old woman to deposit a $2,860 fraudulent check, according to officials. He once again left the scene on foot. Police said the scheme continued on July 22, when the man persuaded a 20-year-old woman to deposit a $990 fraudulent check at a Citibank on Kings Highway in Midwood.
