A 46-year-old man was found unconscious and unresponsive in a holding cell at Kings County Criminal Court at about 10:15 p.m. Emergency services responded and pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities will release the man’s identity after the family has been properly notified. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause of death. The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division will investigate because the man was in police custody. So far this year, 11 people have died in city custody or shortly after release, with most cases involving the Department of Correction. Earlier incidents include a recent unresponsive inmate at Rikers and a March death at 120 Schermerhorn Street.
