"This is a disgusting and heartbreaking act of antisemitism, and it has no place in our beautiful city,"
"As Mayor, I will always stand steadfast with our Jewish neighbors to root the scourge of antisemitism out of our city,"
"We will build a city hall that stands steadfast alongside Jewish New Yorkers and does not waver in the fight against the scourge of antisemitism, where the more than 1 million Muslims know that they belong, not just in the five boroughs of this city, but in the halls of power,"
"No more will New York be a city where you can traffic in Islamophobia and win an election."
A swastika was painted on the window of a Jewish day school in Brooklyn and Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani publicly rebuked the act as antisemitism with no place in the city. Mamdani pledged to stand steadfast with Jewish neighbors and to root the scourge of antisemitism out of the city. He will be New York City's first Muslim mayor and faced Islamophobic and anti-immigrant attacks during the campaign. Recent related incidents include a swastika at a GOP headquarters in Albany and a Young Republican group chat praising Nazi Germany. Mamdani vowed to build an inclusive city hall protecting all faiths and reject Islamophobia in politics.
