Lazy landlord did the unthinkable when new tenant found roaches in apartment: 'My worst nightmare'
""I moved into my new apartment Oct 1st. At this point, I am 90% unpacked and even finished building all of my IKEA furniture. I wanted to decorate my kitchen and put stuff on top of my cabinets,""
""I guess the previous tenant had a roach problem... and a mouse problem! I looked under the cabinets on the floor and found a hole full of more dead roaches and mouse poop.""
""My goodness this is my worst nightmare. I have a real fear of roaches and mice. You gotta keep complaining or terminate the lease if they won't properly fix these issues. It's beyond unacceptable.""
Tenant moved into a New York City apartment on Oct 1 and found dead roaches inside kitchen cabinets while unpacking. Cabinets and a hole beneath contained numerous dead roaches and mouse feces. Maintenance painted over the dead roaches and glued a piece of wood over the hole instead of removing or cleaning them. Other residents urged demanding a timely, verifiable remediation, inviting inspection, involving the health department, or terminating the lease if the landlord fails to properly address the infestation. A separate incident described a ceiling collapse that released water and live roaches into another tenant's studio.
