Lawyer seeks bail break for Staten Island man cops had to carry into NYPD stationhouse after arrest
"During a scheduled court appearance last week, defense attorney Michael Cirigliano requested the court lower the bail amount a second time, after reeling off nearly a dozen certificates of achievement his client has received on Rikers Island. "It's still too high for the family to make," said Cirigliano, who referenced Sidbury's family seated in the gallery. He suggested his client could be placed on home detention with an ankle monitor."
"Sidbury, of Van Pelt Avenue in Mariners Harbor, was arrested on the evening of Aug. 21, 2025, after he was accused of displaying a .380-caliber handgun near Castleton and Bement avenues in West Brighton, according to a criminal complaint. Police caught up with the defendant soon after near Bay Street and Slosson Terrace in Tompkinsville. They recovered the firearm with the help of a child who spotted it and called 911, sources said at the time."
"Sidbury, who is listed in jail records at 6 feet tall and 210 pounds, resisted arrest and had to be carried by officers to a police car, the complaint continued. He then refused to exit the vehicle at the 120th Precinct stationhouse in St. George and had to be carried into the building, where he damaged a picture frame with his head, authorities said. Officers who searched the defendant allege they found a small amount of cocaine on his person."
Daquan Sidbury, 34, is seeking a lowered bail after his attorney cited about a dozen certificates of achievement earned while at Rikers Island. Defense counsel requested home detention with an ankle monitor, arguing the current bail is unaffordable for Sidbury's family. Prosecutors opposed the request, referencing Sidbury's prior violent felony conviction and multiple arrests, and Justice Alexander B. Jeong declined to lower bail pending an evidentiary hearing. Sidbury was arrested Aug. 21, 2025, after allegedly displaying a .380-caliber handgun; police say he resisted arrest, damaged a picture frame at the stationhouse, and officers allege they found a small amount of cocaine.
