G train shutdowns return this summer-here's what to know
"The MTA is upgrading G train services, implementing necessary shutdowns for signal modernization, which aims for faster, more reliable trains by 2027."
"Weekend closures and night shutdowns for the G train are necessary for the installation of updated signal technology, impacting riders in Greenpoint."
Starting July 14 through August 18, the MTA will implement night and weekend shutdowns for G train services between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand Avenues. This disruption is part of a $368 million signal modernization project aimed at upgrading the line’s outdated technology. While service will be limited during select hours, the MTA will provide fare-free shuttle buses for affected riders. Although these shutdowns are inconvenient, they are necessary for improvements that promise enhanced reliability and speed for commuters by 2027.
