G train shutdowns coming to nights and weekends this summer for signal upgrades
Briefly

The MTA is set to suspend G train service between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand Avenues during select nights and weekends from July 14 to Aug. 18 as part of a signal modernization initiative. The outdated signal system, in place since the 1930s, has contributed significantly to service disruptions. The $368 million project plans to implement a new Communications-based Train Control (CBTC) system, expected to enhance reliability for the 160,000 daily riders. During service interruptions, shuttle buses will operate regularly to mitigate the impact on commuters.
During the upcoming outages, fare-free shuttle buses will replace train service, stopping at all affected stations and running frequently, ensuring riders are accommodated.
The project, scheduled to cause G train service outages from July 14 to Aug. 18, aims to modernize a nearly century-old signal system, enhancing reliability.
