"It's awful,"
"It's been devastating for our kids,"
"We don't have a fancy stadium like a lot of the other schools we play, but playing across the street from Yankee Stadium was a great source of pride for them."
"This is a place for people to exercise: not for people to be riding their scooters, motorcycles, dirt bikes - keep that outside, to the streets,"
Teen dirt-bike riders have been tearing up the turf and track at Macombs Dam Park in the South Bronx, creating massive holes and dangerously slippery conditions. The park was renovated in 2010 after Yankee Stadium construction, but local coaches report finding syringes on the field and deem the site unsafe for practices. Cardinal Hayes and other teams have stopped using the field. A 2021 collision between a dirt biker and a five-year-old sent the child to the hospital. The Parks Department reported zero dirt bike-related summonses at the site this year, prompting calls for enforcement and maintenance.
