Prostitution has a homicide rate of 229 per 100,000 workers, surpassing many other occupations. Mayor Eric Adams opposes legalizing or decriminalizing prostitution and connects his stance to prior police experience and Christian faith. Adams says no one should be on city streets selling their bodies and describes knowing what sex trafficking and street-level abuse look like, including frequent assaults. Adams criticizes opponent Zohran Mamdani for supporting decriminalization and questions what the Quran permits regarding street prostitution. A social media post amplified Adams' comments and framed his remarks as a repudiation of Mamdani's position.
And if you believe that's what it should be, then that's fine, but the as the mayor of this city, I know what sex trafficking looks like, I know what women who are selling their bodies on the street the abuse they go through, I know the amount of assault on them, So those who can find a logical reason that a woman should be on the street, or a boy....it's wrong.
I can't be clearer. I'm a man of God, just as Mamdani says he's a Muslim. I don't know where in his Quran it states that it's OK for a woman to be on the streets selling their body,
