City-Issued Violations at NYCHA Developments Are Now Public, Following Legal Settlement
"This transparency will empower NYCHA residents to better understand their apartment conditions and advocate for themselves and their communities,"

NYCHA housing code violations issued by the city are now published online through HPD’s portal and NYC Open Data following a legal settlement. Records posted so far date back about a month and include more than 500 violations issued after court-ordered apartment inspections. HPD inspectors typically enter NYCHA apartments only when ordered by housing court, making the newly posted records a broader source of inspection information. Advocates and legal services say public access will empower residents to understand building conditions and press for repairs. The change follows a partial NYCHA building collapse in the Bronx and tenant reports of leaks, infestations, mold, heat and hot water outages.
