The Civilian Complaint Review Board concluded four NYPD officers abused their authority and used excessive force in the beating and arrest of Brooklyn homeless shelter worker Jason Salters, and recommended disciplinary penalties. The CCRB report names Sgt. Tashida Wilson, Det. Steven Mednick, Det. Christopher Chin and Officer Benjamin Hinderman and alleges failure to activate body-worn cameras, leaving unclear which officers appear in video. An internal Department of Homeless Services report states a supervisor told Salters officers cannot search for a client unless in active pursuit; officers entered despite his efforts to keep them out. The CCRB recommends vacation-day penalties; Commissioner Jessica Tisch will decide whether to implement discipline.
