Six people were reportedly shot and one person was slashed after the West Indian Day Parade along Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights on Sept. 1. Four separate incidents occurred between 5:35 p.m. and 6:55 p.m. as the parade was winding down and crowds dispersed. The first incident grazed a woman in her 40s and hit a man in his 20s; both were hospitalized in stable condition. A man slashed around 6:12 p.m. suffered multiple injuries, refused medical attention, and was uncooperative with investigators. Later shootings wounded three more people, including a 53-year-old man listed in critical condition. No arrests have been made. The NYPD deployed thousands of officers along the nearly two-mile route, a deployment larger than the Times Square New Year’s Eve assignment.
