"They blocked the door, kind of pointed some guns at some of the customers in the front, told everyone to stay back,"
"They started smashing with a hammer and just taking things. They stole from the cash register, pointed their guns at a couple more people, wouldn't let anybody leave--and then they got out in a couple of minutes."
"I'm just really glad everyone is safe. When you hear people smashing with a hammer and brandishing guns--when I watched the tape, they were pointing guns right in the faces of my friends, our customers, our community. Luckily, no one was hurt, and I'm very thankful for that."
Three masked suspects armed with a handgun and hammers stormed a newly opened Pokemon store in Manhattan's Meatpacking District on January 14 during an arts-and-crafts community event. Surveillance footage showed the suspects threatening about 40 customers, smashing display cases, and quickly removing rare trading cards dating from 1999 to 2016 featuring Charizard, Ho-Oh, Pikachu, and Treecko. The thieves stole over $116,000 in cards, $1,000 in cash, and a customer's phone. The entire incident lasted under three minutes; an employee locked the door and called police after the suspects fled. No injuries were reported.
