America's Most Famous Cardinal Reveals How He 'Was Ticked Off' By Mamdani, Offended By JD Vance's 'Scurrilous' Suggestion
""I was ticked off he didn't invite me to his inauguration. Most of the time the archbishop of New York, among other religious leaders, get[s] invited. I was ticked off that he ... had few, few, few, few, few, few Catholics on his transition team," Dolan told EWTN's Mark Irons. "And then I was really ticked off that he didn't show up at the installation of my successor," the cardinal emphasized."
"Dolan, who served as archbishop of New York from 2009 until the end of 2025, specifically referred to the avowed socialist mayor's decisions to not invite the cardinal to his Jan. 1 inauguration and to skip the installation of Dolan's successor, Archbishop Ronald Hicks. The cardinal also shared his thoughts on Vice President JD Vance, a Catholic, during an "EWTN News In Depth" interview released Friday."
Cardinal Timothy Dolan, retired after serving as New York archbishop from 2009 to end of 2025, criticized Mayor Zohran Mamdani for not inviting him to the Jan. 1 inauguration and for skipping the installation of Archbishop Ronald Hicks. Dolan expressed frustration that Mamdani included very few Catholics on his transition team and that no other Catholic clergy were invited to the inauguration. The tradition of mayors attending archbishop installations dates to 1939. City Hall cited a scheduling conflict for the mayor's absence at the Feb. 6 installation. Dolan also described Vice President JD Vance as a "very good guy."
