"In a city that has made room for everything from Michelin-starred restaurants to dive bars, bakeries, and homegrown pizzerias, there's still space for a full-throttle, spring-break-energy hangout. Caliente Cab Co., with its giant tilted margarita spilling off the facade, sits at 61 Seventh Avenue South at Bleecker. For 41 years, it has offered plenty of seats and cheap drinks for any occasion, including this year's nearby Village Halloween Parade, which returns Friday, October 31."
""It's a block from the route so we get a lot of people," says longtime owner Howard Berke about the upcoming parade. He expects to sell about 1,000 margaritas that night - on the rocks, frozen, and everything in between. Each seat at the restaurant is set with a placemat listing margaritas from $14 to $22 in spins like blood orange, prickly pear, or skinny cucumber, plus a $60, 55-ounce version."
"Berke, 75, started by renting the building for $1,800 a month. Now he owns it, along with many buildings on the block and around the city, including the one that houses Argentinian restaurant, Sabor (57 Seventh Avenue South) and Torizaku at 282 Bleecker Street. He used to own the property at 94 University Place that he sold to Santo Taco a few months ago, he says."
