The 84th Precinct covers Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill, part of Downtown Brooklyn, DUMBO and Vinegar Hill. Deputy Inspector Thomas Maffei moved to the 83rd Precinct in Bushwick. On Jan. 20, Council President Peter Lanfranca led a public meeting where the newly designated commanding officer, Joseph Powers, met residents. Powers has 18 years with the NYPD and a multi-precinct Brooklyn career, serving as sergeant, lieutenant and captain. His assignments included the 69th, 81st, 90th, 73rd, 84th Detective Squad, 88th, 77th and 75th precincts. He pledged to address safety and quality-of-life concerns and invited residents to raise issues, promising to work with the community.
