"The font on the nameplate of Henderson's jersey has looked conspicuously smaller than that of his Patriots teammates. Well, there's finally an answer for why Henderson's nameplate font looks noticeably different. The Patriots' rookie running back prefers to have the stripes on his jersey sit close to the nameplate, which caused the equipment staff to squeeze the lettering of Henderson's name, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported Saturday."
""I've been wearing No. 32 pretty much since Little League," Henderson said in June. "My granddad, he was a great running back, and he used to wear number 32. He passed away, and so I wear it to carry on his legacy and make my mom proud. Last year, winning the national championship in his number 32, that's my favorite memory.""
TreVeyon Henderson's nameplate lettering was intentionally squeezed by equipment staff so the shoulder stripes sit closer to the nameplate, matching his preference. Henderson has said he "low-key" likes the unusual look and earlier expressed uncertainty about why the jersey appeared that way. Former NFL quarterback and analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick sought explanations on social media about the jersey's appearance. Henderson wears No. 32 to honor his late grandfather, a running back who wore that number, and cited winning a national championship last year in No. 32 as a favorite memory. The Patriots selected him in the second round of the 2025 draft. He has rushed for 148 yards on 3.6 yards per carry and one touchdown so far this season.
