NFL analyst already predicting Patriots' latest signing will be a disaster
"Vera-Tucker is a very good player when he is on the field. The problem is he cannot stay on the field. He has been in the NFL for five seasons. He has suffered season-ending injuries in three of them. Sandwiched in between those three injury seasons was a standout 2024 at right guard. Still, this deal is a massive risk for the Patriots."
The Patriots acquired versatile offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker from the Jets during the legal tampering period, moving Jared Wilson to center to fill their starting left guard position. Vera-Tucker, a former first-round pick, offers flexibility to play multiple offensive line positions. While most analysts view the signing favorably given his potential, concerns persist about his durability. He has suffered season-ending injuries in three of his five NFL seasons, including multiple torn triceps and a torn Achilles. Despite a strong 2024 performance at right guard, his injury history presents significant risk. The signing could yield substantial value if Vera-Tucker stays healthy, but poses considerable downside if injuries continue.
