How a lesson from Randy Moss helped Patriots WR coach win Stefon Diggs's trust
"He's part of the reason that I came here, I said the conglomerate of people, he's definitely one of the main people. We had multiple conversations, especially when I first got here on my visit and I trusted him. I don't trust many people. I believed him. He gave me face value words and I appreciate his honesty. Same with [Vrabel]. I appreciate straight shooters. You can tell me the truth no matter what it is and I'll rock with you with it. If you try to pull the wool over my eyes it gets a little dicey."
"I remember Randy Moss saying that if you ever tell a player a lie and he knows it, he won't trust you, and he won't listen to you. And so I remember taking that to heart and thinking, 'Well, if I don't know that, I'm just not going to say anything.'"
Stefon Diggs signed with the New England Patriots influenced by factors including Drake Maye's presence and opportunities to learn from Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels. Familiarity with position coach Todd Downing from their time in Minnesota in 2018 contributed to Diggs's decision. Diggs said he does not trust many people but trusted Downing after multiple conversations during his visit. Diggs values honesty and straight shooters and said he will support coaches who tell the truth. Downing recalled a lesson from Randy Moss about truth and trust and said that if players detect dishonesty they will not listen.
