Ex-Patriots HC Jerod Mayo has a new job away from football
Jerod Mayo, 40, joined Fifth Down Capital as managing director in February, per his LinkedIn profile. Fifth Down Capital is a private equity investment firm based in Needham. The firm targets partnerships with generational companies and compelling fund managers to shape large, enduring markets, and it invests in technology, healthcare, and consumer/retail companies. Mayo previously worked at Optum as vice president of business development from 2015 to 2018. He coached the New England Patriots in 2024, finishing 4-13 and being fired after a Week 18 win over the Buffalo Bills that secured the No. 4 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Patriots had two separate six-game losing streaks during his tenure, and Robert Kraft said the decision to dismiss Mayo was difficult personally and financially.
