Birmingham High's basketball team, composed primarily of underclassmen with only four seniors, achieved a historic milestone by reaching the state Division III championship game at Golden 1 Center. After an initial loss in the City Section playoffs, the Patriots regrouped and won the Division III regional to advance to the finals. Despite trailing by 21 points in the third quarter, Birmingham rallied to within seven points with 4:16 remaining. Antioch Cornerstone Christian's superior guard play, led by Benjamin Lukacs's 26 points and James Perry's 16 points, proved decisive. Coach Nick Halic expressed pride in his team's achievement and commitment to building on this experience for future success.
