Vancouver Canucks reportedly believe it's better to trade Quinn Hughes this season if he doesn't make long-term commitment to team

"I do believe that they internally do think that it's better to move him this year if - capital letters 'IF' - he doesn't want to commit to the franchise long term,"

"It may not boil down to money with him,"

"He's said before he wants to play with his brothers. That would be partly out of our control. In our control would be if we brought his brothers here."

Quinn Hughes is eligible for a contract extension next summer and could be moved by the Vancouver Canucks if he declines a long-term commitment. Insider Rick Dhaliwal believes the club may trade Hughes this season if they conclude he will not re-sign. Canucks president Jim Rutherford noted Hughes has expressed a desire to play with his brothers, which could affect retention and is partly beyond the team's control. Jack and Luke Hughes are under long-term deals with the New Jersey Devils, and Quinn leads Vancouver with 21 points in 18 games.
