"Nicolas Roy ahead of his Leafs preseason debut: I am pretty excited. It is my first game, even if it is preseason. It is a Saturday night against Montreal. It's going to be fun, for sure. Roy on Craig Berube's coaching style: Hard-nosed. He wants guys who give their best. You know what he wants from you. You know what pedigree has in the league. He has won, and he is winning almost every year. Really good coach."
"Roy his line with Dakota Joshua and Matias Maccelli: Practice went well, so we are going to see tonight. Joshua is a big guy who plays a little bit like me. We like to go on the forecheck, protect pucks, and be hard to play against. We've seen Maccelli in preseason and past years; he is making plays and has great vision. Looking forward to it."
The Maple Leafs will ice a projected opening-night third line of Dakota Joshua, Nicolas Roy and Matias Maccelli for their preseason game against Montreal. Nicolas Roy expressed excitement for his preseason debut and described the line’s identity as physical, forechecking, puck-protecting and difficult to play against, citing Maccelli’s playmaking and vision. Coach Craig Berube praised David Kampf’s steady play and attitude on the road, called himself impressed with Auston Matthews’ camp performance and said Matthews will receive another exhibition game. Berube said he plans to experiment with different NHL lineup looks and advised Easton Cowan to stick with what is working as he adapts to the higher level.
