""That was unbelievable," "He's a nail-gun. He's not fun to fight against that's for sure, We talked about it before the game, he didn't want anyone to do it. He wanted to do it himself. Hell of respect for that. That's big.""
""I think we all know what happened last year," "I didn't really like the hit and talked to him in warmups and said he'd give me one. I respect that.""
""There were a lot of guys in the room asking, but I said I wanted to do it," "I figured I'd take care my own business.""
Tage Thompson dropped the gloves with Stefan Noesen 2:24 into the first period on his first shift to avenge a February headshot that had injured him. Thompson landed several huge punches and had already recorded a goal and an assist that night. Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin praised Thompson's willingness to fight and noted that the team would not allow a similar situation to go unaddressed again. Thompson said he and Noesen agreed in warmups that they would fight, and he declined teammates' offers so he could handle his own business. The bout marked Thompson's sixth regular-season fight.
