"I would say it's bittersweet," Carbery said. "I'm happy for Vinny. He's going to get an opportunity to play in San Jose for a great coach who I know very well, good organization, and a chance to play in the National Hockey League right now. Bitter in the sense of he's been a good player in our organization and has done a lot of things in Hershey, and is right there. He's still a young player and still has time to develop."
"one of my best friends"
Vincent Iorio, a 22-year-old defenseman, was claimed off waivers by the San Jose Sharks after the Washington Capitals exposed him while clearing a roster spot for Dylan McIlrath's expected return from injured reserve. Iorio was a second-round pick in 2021 and spent the bulk of his professional career with the Hershey Bears, winning back-to-back Calder Cups in 2023 and 2024. The move was described as bittersweet, acknowledging that Iorio will get an NHL opportunity in San Jose while also recognizing his significant contributions in Hershey. Iorio has appeared in nine NHL games and remains a 6-foot-4, right-shot defender continuing to develop.
