"I think it's pretty clear, Klingberg said of the message he received from the Sharks' coaching staff. It's up to me to play (well)."
"I wouldn't really say it's totally the power play, Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said when asked about Klingberg. I think there's better hockey in him 5-on-5, and we're going to keep getting to it, and (we have) a lot of defensemen. So, there'll be some changes."
"I think just have a little bit better puck play, Klingberg said of his own game. Be more consistent with the puck."
The San Jose Sharks have frequently rotated defensemen and appear set to make John Klingberg a healthy scratch after recent inconsistent performances. Klingberg was a combined -4 with two giveaways in losses to Calgary and Seattle and watched Dmitry Orlov take the first power-play point in practice while rookie Sam Dickinson moved to the second unit. Klingberg signed a one-year, $3 million contract partly to bolster a struggling power play that went 3-for-32 over 11 games and now ranks 19th at 18.8% after 19 games. Coach Ryan Warsofsky cited better 5-on-5 potential and roster depth leading to lineup changes. Klingberg emphasized improving puck play and consistency. In 657 career NHL games, Klingberg has 23 power-play goals and 140 power-play assists.
