Scenes from Leafs' morning skate: Auston Matthews resumes skating, Woll projected to start vs. Blues
"Q, he's got great speed. He's fast, he's powerful for a young kid. He's going to bring energy to the game. He's going to work. He's going to compete, that's what he's going to bring to the game tonight."
"Yeah, I've got all the faith in our coach right now, so I don't look at that as the issue. My job right now is to support our coach, support his message, support our group."
Auston Matthews resumed skating while on injured reserve for a lower-body injury sustained November 11 against Boston and is not expected to return for Thursday's game against Columbus. Matthews has nine goals and 14 points in 17 games this season and missed 15 games last season with a lingering upper-body issue that affected shot velocity and location. Joseph Woll is the projected starter for Tuesday after making 29 saves in his season debut, with Dennis Hildeby as backup. Nicolas Roy will be out for a couple of games. Jacob Quillan will make his season debut and brings notable speed, power, energy, work rate, competitiveness, and positional versatility. Brad Treliving accepted responsibility for the team's 8-9-2 start while expressing confidence in the head coach and a desire to continue upgrading the roster. The projected forward group includes Robertson-Tavares-Nylander, Knies-Max Domi-Easton Cowan, and Matias Maccelli with Jacob Quillan.
