Sabres' Dahlin leaves team to support fiancee
"I think it's been incredibly hard. I fully understand what this young man is going through. I don't think you can describe it. I'm very passionate about the fact that no one would want to walk in his shoes and to have dealt with what he has dealt with. He has the support of everybody on this. This is larger than hockey."
"I got more to give, I'm not satisfied,"
"I want to create more. I want to do more out there. I'm not satisfied, but I'm on the way."
Rasmus Dahlin is taking a leave of absence from the Buffalo Sabres to join his fiancée, Carolina Matovac, in Sweden while she recovers from a heart transplant. There is no timetable for his return to the team. Matovac experienced sudden heart failure last summer while vacationing in France and received life-saving care en route to the hospital. Matovac remains in Sweden during recovery while Dahlin began the season with Buffalo and continues to serve as team captain. Dahlin has nine points in 14 games and averages over 24 minutes per night, yet he expressed frustration with his individual play. Coach Lindy Ruff confirmed Matovac has had no setbacks and emphasized that Dahlin has the support of the team.
