"It's an incredible honor to be the head coach of the New York Rangers, a franchise that has such history to it. For me, it's just a privilege that I don't take for granted. To get the first win, it means a lot to me. J.T. gave me the game puck, which was nice," he continued. "He made a joke about how long our video meetings are. Vincent Trocheck left the Rangers' game against the Buffalo Sabres with an upper-body injury after already wearing a full face shield from a prior training camp nose hit. Igor Shesterkin made 37 saves and recorded his 22nd career shutout as the Rangers defeated Buffalo 4-0. Alexis Lafreniere, Carson Soucy, J.T. Miller, and Adam Fox scored goals. Coach Mike Sullivan earned his first win leading the Rangers. J.T. Miller had shown early signs of shaking off prior rust or soreness. The Rangers dominated early play and Lafreniere opened the scoring.
