"Adam Sykora was the standout player last night. His calling card has been his high-motor, tenacious forecheck, and an ability to find open space when needed. Sykora skated like his life depended on it each and every time he was on the ice, and was a major disruptor anytime he went in on the forecheck against the Flyers defense. Causing turnovers on the Flyers defense, Sykora was able to create some plays, but unfortunately the Rangers just couldn't get the puck past Carson Bjarnason."
"Another player who really impressed me who did score a goal in the game was Dylan Roobroeck. After 20 goals in Hartford last year, he was the Rangers next best player, winning some key face-offs and showcasing an ability to properly play a 2-way game. His goal probably doesn't sneak past an AHL goalie, but at the time it put the Rangers up 2-0 early."
"It's time to look towards the future, and to never look back at the disaster that was the 2024-2025 season. With the upcoming talent showcased in last night, I'm genuinely excited for the future of the Rangers and writing these Rangers Rookie Series recaps. Last night had some head scratchers, but overall the players you expected to look good, looked good."
Preseason rookie action produced optimism for the Rangers after a disappointing 2024-2025 season. Adam Sykora stood out with a relentless, high-motor forecheck, consistently finding open space and forcing turnovers, though the team could not solve goalie Carson Bjarnason. Dylan Roobroeck scored and displayed a reliable two-way game and strong face-off work following a 20-goal season in Hartford. Noah Laba and Roobroeck are projected to start in the AHL but could push for NHL roles and midseason call-ups, potentially competing with Jusso Parssinen for a center spot. Stream issues hindered identification, and Scott Morrow followed a good first period with several missed passes.
