"That was an important part of my decision - wanting to be in the playoffs, wanting to compete for a Stanley Cup again,"
"That feeling of being really close in Montreal, and then losing in the final, that was a tough feeling. I always said before my career is over, I want to be able to be in that position again and be on a team that can compete for a Stanley Cup. Coming to Florida, I think that gives me a very good opportunity to do that."
"Jeff is a skilled, puck-moving defenseman who can contribute quality veteran leadership to our lineup,"
"We are excited that he will join us to supplement our exciting core."
Jeff Petry, 37, signed a one-year, league-minimum contract with the Florida Panthers for $775,000 to pursue another Stanley Cup run. Petry last appeared in the playoffs in 2021 when he reached the Stanley Cup Final with Montreal. He has played 981 career NHL games across 15 seasons with 385 points (96 goals, 289 assists). Petry played 44 games last season for Detroit after missing more than two-and-a-half months with an abdominal injury. Panthers management characterized him as a skilled, puck-moving defenseman who will add veteran leadership and depth to an already strong roster.
