"Justin Sourdif was all alone up front, scoring his third goals of the season to give Washington a 1-0 lead one minute into the game. And if you turned off the TV then, you probably had a good night. Brandon Hagel scored a shorthanded goal, the exact opposite of what is supposed to happen on a Caps power play. Oliver Bjorkstrand got a rebound to give Tampa the lead, then extended by another from Hagel (lucky) and one from Nikita Kucherov on a breakaway."
"Logan Thompson allowed four goals on six shots before earning the hook. I chose the word earning with intent. I can't fault him for the Kucherov breakaway goal, but otherwise this was the worst game of Thompson's tenure in DC. I'm going to share a tweet now, but I need to emphasize ahead of time that this was about another goalie in another game."
The Washington Capitals surrendered a three-goal first-period lead and lost at home to the Tampa Bay Lightning. Justin Sourdif opened the scoring for Washington one minute in, but Tampa responded with a shorthanded goal from Brandon Hagel, a rebound by Oliver Bjorkstrand, another Hagel goal and a Nikita Kucherov breakaway. Washington narrowed the gap in the second with Jakob Chychrun's lucky bounce and additional scoring, but Tampa sealed the win when Anthony Cirelli finished a rebound. Logan Thompson allowed four goals on six shots and was pulled. The Caps' power play failed on multiple opportunities, including an own-goal.
