""The players co-operated with every investigation,""
""Upon their full acquittal by Superior Court Justice Maria Carroccia, we initiated discussions with the NHL regarding the players' return to work. To avoid a protracted dispute that would cause further delay, we reached the resolution that the league announced today. We now consider the matter closed and look forward to the players' return.""
""deeply troubling and unacceptable""
Five players—Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Alex Formenton and Carter Hart—were acquitted of sexual assault charges after a two-month trial and can resume NHL play when suspensions expire Dec. 1. All five are unrestricted free agents and may sign with teams on Oct. 15 pending full reinstatement. McLeod faced an additional charge of being a party to the offences. The NHL conducted its own investigation beginning spring 2022, described the events as "deeply troubling and unacceptable," and said the conduct did not meet standards of moral integrity. The players expressed regret and remorse and the NHLPA said the matter is considered closed.
