Confusion ensued with Ekblad and Tarasov getting their wires crossed, allowing the combination of Caufield and Ivan Demidov to win possession. Demidov fed out to Suzuki and he cracked the puck into the net from the top of the right circle with 1:22 remaining in regulation."

Sam Reinhart extended the lead with a seeing-eye shot to make it 2-0. Cole Caufield cut the deficit to one with an individual effort 32 seconds later. With Montembeault pulled for an extra attacker, confusion between Aaron Ekblad and Tarasov led to Ivan Demidov and Nick Suzuki creating the tying goal with 1:22 left. Suzuki then scored the overtime winner after a Marchand roughing penalty.
