NHL questioning untested ice ahead of Olympics
"There's still work ongoing on the rinks and the ice conditions,"
"It's something that we're monitoring closely, and we have absolutely no control over. This is all on the [International Olympic Committee] and the [International Ice Hockey Federation]."
"constant reassurances"
"everything will be fine"
Less than 90 days before the 2026 Winter Olympics, several Olympic hockey rinks remain unfinished, prompting concerns about ice quality and player safety as NHL athletes return to the Games for the first time since 2014. Santagiulia Arena, designated as the main hockey rink, is still under construction and will not host its planned December test events; the U-20 tournament was relocated to Rho Fiera, which will host secondary matches. Construction delays could leave Santagiulia untested when women's hockey opens Feb. 5, and newly built spaces may lack full operational testing of fan facilities. The NHL is monitoring conditions but has no control; the IOC and IIHF have provided reassurances about rink readiness.
