Maple Leafs' Henry Thrun motivated to prove himself ahead of season debut against familiar foe
""It's super exciting obviously," Thrun said. "Toronto is the biggest hockey market in the world, so to be able to get a chance to represent the NHL team here is pretty special.""
""I mean you always do right, It's a league where you're trying to prove yourself every night," Thrun said. "I'm more just worried about myself and playing my game.""
Henry Thrun will make his Maple Leafs debut Thursday against the San Jose Sharks, the team that traded him to Toronto on July 10 in exchange for Ryan Reaves. Thrun, 24, played 119 NHL games with San Jose across parts of three seasons, recording five goals and 20 assists. A 2019 fourth-round pick of the Anaheim Ducks, he played three seasons at Harvard before turning pro in 2022-23. Thrun has three goals and six assists in 19 games with the Toronto Marlies this season, ranking second among Marlies defensemen in points. Injuries to Brandon Carlo, Chris Tanev and Dakota Mermis opened the opportunity. The game starts at 7 p.m. ET from Scotiabank Arena.
