"Even though we were down 1-0 [after 20 minutes], we did a really good job of dictating a lot of the play. Credit to our guys to understand [the need for a better start], recognizing it, and then going out and executing."
"I thought [Luke Haymes] was great. I thought he did a good job of using that break for a recharge and a reset. For those college kids, sometimes, these breaks are really huge for them, after going from playing 30 games a year to 70."
Toronto Marlies played before about 13,000 at Scotiabank Arena and showed excellent energy and execution from the start. The team rebounded after an early 1-0 deficit by dictating much of the play and sticking to the game plan to earn a must-win result. A four-day Christmas break after an 8-4 loss in Belleville provided rest and helped the players recharge. The new-look second line of Alex Nylander and Jacob Quillan created chemistry and set up chances for Ryan Tverberg. A questionable interference on Quillan led to a Belleville power play that the penalty kill largely contained. A subsequent breakdown allowed Lassi Thomson time in the slot before Artur Akhtyamov delivered an outstanding early save. Luke Haymes intercepted a pass and tested the goalie but his low shot missed the net.
