Logan Thompson's goalie mask for road games features the numbers of every Capitals defenseman: 'I don't always say anything, but I'm thinking of them'
""I am going to put Vinny (Vincent Iorio) on there as well," Thompson said after practice. "I don't know if I'll be able to get it painted, but I'll throw his number up back there for sure.""
""Yeah, (those) guys go out there every day and block shots for me, get in lanes, and bail me out quite a bit," Thompson said. "So I just wanted to get their numbers on my back plate, just knowing that I don't always say anything, but I'm thinking of them.""
""A little bit, yeah," Thompson said. "So I didn't think it all the way through, maybe I've got to just throw the whole team on there eventually.""
Logan Thompson unveiled a new away-mask back plate at Capitals practice featuring the numbers of every team defenseman: #3 Matt Roy, #6 Jakob Chychrun, #38 Rasmus Sandin, #42 Martin Fehervary, #47 Declan Chisholm, #52 Dylan McIlrath, #57 Trevor van Riemsdyk, and #74 John Carlson. He intends to add Vincent Iorio's number as well, painted if possible. The idea originated over the summer to show appreciation for defensemen who block shots, get in lanes, and bail him out, acknowledging he does not always express gratitude out loud. The away mask is mostly white and light blue with the Capitol dome, screaming eagles, and his number 48 on the chin. Thompson keeps three masks per season: home, away, and an alternate.
