Logan Thompson could join an elite list of goaltenders with a hot start to the 2025-26 season
Briefly

Logan Thompson recorded 31 wins in 42 starts last season, the most for the Capitals since Braden Holtby in 2018-19. The 28-year-old requires 13 more wins to reach 100 career victories and has a 19-game window to do so across 146 games played. Thompson began 2024-25 with a 15-2-2 record in his first 19 decisions, making the milestone attainable with a strong start. He finished fourth in 2025 Vezina Trophy voting after a 31-6-6 season with a 2.49 goals-against average, .910 save percentage, and two shutouts. Thompson signed a six-year, $35.1 million extension and remained active locally as a guest coach and in informal skates over the summer.
If Thompson gets off to another strong start this year, he'll join an elite list of all-time netminders. The 28-year-old needs 13 more wins to reach 100 in his career, and if he reaches that milestone before playing his 166th career game, he'll land among the top 10 fastest in NHL history to do so. Thompson owns an 87-38-17 career record across 146 games played, giving him a 19-game window to get there.
After signing a six-year, $35.1 million contract extension with the club in January, Thompson stayed in the DC area over the summer. He served as a guest coach alongside Holtby at development camp and participated in an autograph signing with John Carlson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Al Iafrate in Southern Maryland in July. Thompson was also one of the first Capitals players to hit the ice for informal skates ahead of September's training camp.
