Kuemper's Brilliant Performance Allows Kings to Survive Against Sharks - The Hockey Writers Los Angeles Kings Latest News, Analysis & More
"Just got to thank Darce, really. He played unbelievable tonight. That's our worst game of the season by far,"
"That was a tough trip, lots of travel, lots of tight games with the overtime games, which were well documented."
"We'd have 50/50 pucks and we'd have guys blowing the zone on a 50/50 puck. Then, all of a sudden, we'd have long shifts in our zone. You get tired, they get to change and then you're basically screwed. We just weren't connected tonight."
The Los Angeles Kings earned a 4-3 road win over the San Jose Sharks largely because of Darcy Kuemper's 37 saves, including 14 of 15 high-danger stops and 2.07 goals saved above expected. The Kings were outplayed for much of the game, suffering puck-watching, blown coverage, turnovers, and penalties that allowed sustained Sharks pressure. Goaltending on both sides kept the score close, with Yaroslav Askarov making key saves for the Sharks at times. The win completed a five-game road trip with a 4-0-1 record as the Kings took two points despite a poor overall performance.
