Jack Hughes to miss next eight weeks for Devils after undergoing surgery to repair finger cut suffered at team dinner
"New Jersey Devils C Jack Hughes underwent successful surgery on his finger,"
"The procedure was performed by Dr. Robert Hotchkiss at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. The expected return to play timeline is eight weeks, and he will be re-evaluated at the six-week mark."
"It changes (our pre-scout) significantly,"
"I think that the team, the way that New Jersey plays, that doesn't change a lot from what we'll show our group and talk about and make sure they're aware of. But there are individual tendencies that Jack Hughes has that we would show and make sure our players are aware."
Jack Hughes underwent successful finger surgery performed by Dr. Robert Hotchkiss at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. The expected return-to-play timeline is eight weeks, with a re-evaluation at the six-week mark. Hughes reportedly cut his finger by leaning on a glass at a Chicago restaurant. The 24-year-old leads the Devils with 20 points (10g, 10a) in 17 games and averages 21:09 of ice time. Hughes has not completed a full NHL season since being selected first overall in 2019. He recorded 70 points in 62 games last season before shoulder surgery ended that campaign. The eight-week absence could keep him out of New Jersey’s December 27 game versus Washington, and Capitals coach Spencer Carbery said the injury changes pre-scouting and that Hughes’ individual tendencies would be emphasized for his players.
