""Our team is so easy to make plays with, everyone is in the right spot," Schaefer said with a shrug. "I found (Drouin) there, and it was an easy pass to him and of course he puts it in the back of the net.""
""I thought he was really good," Roy said of Schaefer. "He was good at the end. Throwing pucks at the net. I thought that he seemed very comfortable, very confident out there. So I'm very pleased with him.""
Matthew Schaefer, the top overall pick in June's draft, made his NHL debut for the New York Islanders against the Pittsburgh Penguins, registering an assist 12 minutes into the game. Schaefer executed a deft pass from the half wall to Jonathan Drouin, who scored to tie the game. Schaefer logged 17:15 of ice time, including shifts with the net empty late. Islanders coach Patrick Roy praised his comfort and confidence, noting active play and shot attempts. Schaefer acknowledged early jitters but otherwise appeared poised, while around 30 friends and family attended the debut.
