""He was an up-and-coming young player that a lot of people were talking about," Crosby said. "Between hearing that and then seeing him on the ice a little bit. I think he was injured the first time I met him, but he did go on the ice for a little bit and you could see his skill.""
""I mean, he's the truth," Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon said. "He's going to be the best player in this league for a long time. He might already be there.""
Sidney Crosby recalled first meeting Macklin Celebrini in Halifax, noting Celebrini briefly skated despite an early injury and showed clear skill. Celebrini was drafted No. 1 in 2024 by the San Jose Sharks, made the NHL roster as a rookie, and established himself as a top-line center. In his second season he rose into elite status, ranking fourth in NHL scoring before the Olympic break and scoring Canada's opening goal in the Winter Olympics. Colorado center Nathan MacKinnon praised Celebrini as already among the league's best. Celebrini turns 20 in June and fuels San Jose's unexpected rebuild progress.
