Tom Wilson scored first for the Capitals, but the Islanders' penalty kill swung momentum when Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored short-handed off a pass from Simon Holmstrom that survived an offside challenge. Emil Heineman set up Bo Horvat for the go-ahead goal, and Mathew Barzal added an empty-netter after returning from a one-game benching. The team improved defensively and generated more offense in the final two periods.
