"Without him in that first period, obviously, we're not standing here happy about the game. So, it was phenomenal by him giving us some time to get our legs under us in a tough back-to-back."
"He gave me the chance to get a stick on it. He made a perfect pass. We want to keep building on that. The PK was huge today. It's a big difference in a tight game and today it made a big difference."
"We cut down on shots against, chances against, and we started generating more offense as well. It was a great team effort."
The New York Islanders ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 road win over the Washington Capitals. Ilya Sorokin made 22 saves, including 13 in the opening period, keeping the team competitive through a challenging start. Tom Wilson scored first for the Capitals, but the Islanders' penalty kill swung momentum when Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored short-handed off a pass from Simon Holmstrom that survived an offside challenge. Emil Heineman set up Bo Horvat for the go-ahead goal, and Mathew Barzal added an empty-netter after returning from a one-game benching. The team improved defensively and generated more offense in the final two periods.
