"Skating down the middle of the ice early in the third period, Protas sent a shot on net, which appeared to go off the back boards and then be covered by Wolf Pack goaltender Dylan Garand. Officials blew the play dead because they thought the puck was frozen. But as that happened, the puck rolled through Garand's five-hole and crept just barely over the goal line before a Wold Pack player could swipe it away."
"Confusion reigned supreme, as the Bears celebrated in the corner as if it were a good goal. Protas pointed to Andrew Cristall, believing his line-mate's poke at Garand as he skated by the net was the reason why it went in. Officials on the ice reviewed footage of the play, seemingly ignoring the fact that they blew play dead before the puck crossed the goal line."
Ilya Protas sent a third-period shot that appeared frozen behind the net but rolled through Dylan Garand's five-hole and crossed the goal line as play had been blown dead. Officials reviewed the footage and ultimately awarded the goal, credited to Protas with assists from Matt Strome and Louie Belpedio at 2:51 of the third period. Graeme Clarke tied the game 22 seconds later to force overtime. Bryce McConnell-Barker scored 3:27 into sudden death on a four-on-three power play to give Hartford the 5-4 win. Trey Fix-Wolansky recorded a hat trick, and Brett Leason scored twice. The Bears extended their point streak to eight games and sit fifth in the Atlantic Division.
