The Los Angeles Kings traded for Artemi Panarin before the Olympic break and then lost Kevin Fiala to a season-ending leg fracture while he played for Switzerland. The Kings sit in a crowded Western Conference, one of five teams within 10 points of the Anaheim Ducks for the second wild-card spot, while six Eastern teams are within eight points of the Bruins. The NHL roster freeze lifts Feb. 22 with games resuming Feb. 25, and teams can negotiate but cannot complete trades until then. The trade deadline is March 6, and front offices have been actively contacting players and agents during the break.
