
"A college hockey star expected to be one of the top picks in this year's NHL draft has been charged with felony assault after allegedly striking another man in the face during an altercation last weekend in State College, Pa. Penn State freshman Gavin McKenna, 18, was arraigned Wednesday and released on $20,000 unsecured bail, according to the State College Police Department."
"Earlier that day, McKenna had a goal and two assists during the Nittany Lions' 5-4 overtime loss to Michigan State in an outdoor game played in front of 74, 575 fans at Beaver Stadium, home of the Penn State football team. McKenna is tied for the team lead with 32 points this season. He has 11 goals and a team-high 21 assists. His availability for the Nittany Lions' next game, Feb. 13 at Michigan, is unclear."
Penn State freshman Gavin McKenna, 18, has been charged with first-degree felony aggravated assault, plus counts of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned and released on $20,000 unsecured bail, with a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 11. Police say the incident occurred around 8:45 p.m. Saturday near the Penn State campus and that the man allegedly struck by McKenna suffered facial injuries requiring corrective surgery. Earlier that day McKenna recorded a goal and two assists in a 5-4 overtime loss at Beaver Stadium. McKenna leads the team with 32 points this season. His availability for the Feb. 13 game is unclear.
