Gary Bettman on if Capitals might be in line for an All-Star Game or NHL Draft after Capital One Arena renovations are completed: 'Yeah, absolutely'
""Yeah, absolutely," Bettman replied. "Actually, Ted took me on a tour of what's been done and what's being planned (at Capital One Arena). What's going on here is nothing short of spectacular. And sharing our tentpole events, our special events with the fans in Washington, with the Capitals, the organization, is always on the table.""
""The construction is going to go on here for another couple of years," Bettman said. "So I don't think you want to come when a building is under construction. You can tie that back to another. But yeah, I mean, there's a great fan base here. Monument"
The Washington Capitals are potential hosts for a future NHL All-Star Game or NHL Draft once Capital One Arena's renovation finishes. Capital One Arena is undergoing an $800 million, multi-phase modernization to improve fan experience, athlete facilities, and the exterior. Planned upgrades include wider concourses, more concessions, new technology, and a Grand Pavilion; Phase 1 delivered a new locker room, film room, and player tunnel. The District of Columbia funded the project to retain the Capitals and Wizards. Construction continues for several more years, with completion targeted by summer 2027 and major-event planning typically starting at least a year ahead.
